But Leverkusen were level just seven minutes later as the German international Rolfes netted three minutes before Arturo Vidal's 75th-minute penalty.
Rolfes, who had only come on as a 70th-minute replacement, then completed the unlikely comeback with his second eight minutes from the end.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar's late penalty secured Schalke a 2-2 draw at home to Stuttgart in a result which helps neither team in their fights to move up the standings.
Timo Gebhart gave Stuttgart the lead in the 15th minute but the hosts equalised through Edu after 29 minutes. Stuttgart again grabbed the lead in the 74th minute with Martin Harnik's goal before Huntelaar's spot-kick came in the 80th minute.

Aaron Hunt had given the the hosts the lead just after the half-hour mark with a powerful low shot but Julian Schuster got the visitors back on level terms in the 62nd minute.
Thomas Schaaf's side were not to be denied as striker Almeida coolly tapped home the winner.
St. Pauli achieved their first home win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Nurnberg secured by a late effort from Florian Bruns.
