The Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central (RRC) in collaboration with the Maamobi Polyclinic have organized a medical outreach programme in Maamobi and its environs.
This is in line with Rotary club’s social responsibility to make access to medical care more accessible to the under privileged in society.
The GHC 30,000 medical outreach programme is an essential component of RRC’s annual work programme, and an indication of the club’s firm commitment to serve communities above self.
The programme started with a complimentary health review including advice and free drugs for the treatment of malaria and a complimentary blood sugar and blood pressure tests.
The club also cut a sod to commence the construction of the new hygienic facilities at the Maamobi General Hospital. This will include the renovation of existing outpatient department toilets and the construction of new toilet and shower facilities for men and women.
People in Maamobi and its environs throng to the clinic in their numbers to either have their blood pressure checked or for malaria treatment.
The people were also schooled on personal hygiene and the importance of sleeping in treated mosquito nets by the nurses and doctors present at the event.
President of the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, Victor Yaw Asante said the medical outreach programme is in memory of Past President, Sophia Twum-Barima who was very passionate about the well-being and health of local communities as demonstrated through her work with the World Health Organisation in Ghana.
“Sophia Twum-Barima is gone but not forgotten. She lived an exemplary life, and was committed to the Rotary ideal of placing service above self. Sophia was passionate about health issues and RRC is pleased to be able to launch this year’s medical outreach programme in her memory” he bemoaned .
Victor Asante was elated at the massive turnout and co-operation of the people at the programme and promised to extend the medical outreach to other parts of the country.
“We are especially pleased to embark on this joint programme with the dynamic Rotaract Club of Accra Ring Road Central. Once again, Rotarians from RRC are reaching within to embrace humanity.”
He thanked Aryton Drugs Ltd, Starwin Products Limited, Bernsweet Pharmaceutical Products, Kinapharma Limited and JM Addo and Sons for supporting the medical programme and called on other companies to emulate their example.
