Ex-Cameroonian soccer star, Roger Milla has expressed his disappointment at the shaky start of the Indomitable Lions at the ongoing Ghana 2008 soccer fiesta.
Cameroon was trounced 4-2 by the Pharaohs of Egypt in their opening “Group C” match played at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday, a result that could dent their determination to qualify to the next stage of the competition following Zambia’s 3-0 victory over Sudan in an another match in the same group.
In an interview with the GNA Sports at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after the opening match, the legendary Milla said: “I am shocked at the lukewarm attitude with which the players of the Indomitable Lions approached the match against the Egyptians.
“I am, therefore, not the least perturbed about the 4-2 humiliating defeat we suffered at the hands of the Pharaohs and do not want to comment further,” he said.
On the match itself, the Egyptians played a combative and a more purposeful game to overcome their Cameroonian counterparts whose defensive strategy failed to click.
Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan, who was voted Man of the Match, made all the difference for his side as he held the midfield tightly to ensure the Pharaohs made many dangerous incursions to the goal area of the Cameroonians.
The Egyptians were excellent in attack just as their defence which was built around Fathalla Abdou Ibrahim, Mohamed Zaid and Fathy Abdel Fattah.
The three defenders did an excellent job as they neutralized most of the dangerous moves by Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o.
