Road Commission bears fangs on motor bikes

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has condemned the use of motor bicycles for commercial purposes, the reckless display of acrobatics with motor bicycles on roads, saying that such acts were unlawful and punishable. The NRSC said it also found it unacceptable the behaviour of getting on to and off, sitting in boots, bonnets and on top of vehicles in motion and the incidence of skate rolling in traffic. In a statement to extend good wishes to Ghanaians on the occasion of the Eid-Ul Adha, the approaching Christmas, the New Year and the CAN 2008, the Commission warned merry makers and all road users that it would collaborate with the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) to deal with all manner of acts proscribed by the law. The Commission said it was resolved to continuously promote best global road safety practices. It has thus directed vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition; drivers must park their vehicles when tired and obey road signs and road markings whilst in traffic. It also called on pedestrians to use designated ways, and instructed passengers to remain alert and advice or report misbehaving drivers to the nearest Police Post, and to remember to put on their seat belts.
