There are few couples who dress as well as Rihanna and ASAP Rocky. Outfits like the ones they wore to the Met Gala 2021 or for the recent photoshoot to announce Rihanna’s pregnancy prove that point. Let’s face it, we like to see influential and attractive people together.
Both Rihanna and Rocky fit that bill, and they have another thing in common: style. They both get dressed with a certain aplomb and we love them for it. So seeing these two fashion powerhouses together on a more regular basis is exciting.
That’s why we put together this post, because they have just so many iconic fits together and their looks have only gotten stronger over the years. Read on to look back at some of their best fashion moments together.
2012 MTV Video Music Awards
When: 2012
Rihanna opened the MTV Video Music Awards in 2012 performing "Cockiness (Love It)" and "We Found Love" from her sixth album Talk That Talk. She wore a red dress designed by Adam Selman, leather pants from Balenciaga, Jeremy Scott sunglasses, and Jordan 2012s. Rocky came out midperformance to rap his verse from the song's remix wearing a long black shirt with leather details, black shorts, and a black cap worn backwards. — Aria Hughes
Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2019 Runway Show
When: 2018
Since Virgil Abloh directed the video for “Fashion Killa,” it was only right for him to reunite this iconic duo for his debut Louis Vuitton runway show. Of course, Abloh kept this future couple dipped in the newest pieces he made for Louis Vuitton.
Rocky stayed true to the ASAP Mob aesthetic, wearing an all black monogrammed suit and holding one of Abloh’s now-iconic soft trunk leather bags. As for Rihanna, Abloh hooked her up with an all white outfit that included an oversized monogrammed blouse, trousers, and one of the first transparent Keepall duffle bags. When these two sat together, it was like an LV Yin & Yang. Shouts out to LVMH for giving RiRi the big bag for Fenty. — Lei Takanashi
Fenty Skin Campaign
When: 2020
Fans might be clamoring for Rihanna's ninth album, but in the meantime, she's been building her Fenty brand empire. One of the latest additions to a product assortment that includes makeup and underwear was her Fenty Skin line, which was rolled out in July 2020.
ASAP Rocky and Lil Nas X were among those who appeared in the official campaign. Skincare is for men too, you know. Here she appears alongside Rocky, who's accessorizing with pearl bracelets and gold grills, but each of their glowing complexions is the most important thing here. Rocky even made sure to shout out Rihanna for including men in the campaign on Instagram writing, "MUCH LUV 2 @BADGALRIRI 4 FEATURING FELLAZ IN THE LATEST @fentyskin CAMPAIGN." —Mike DeStefano
When: 2019
Rihanna and ASAP Rocky always bring their A game on the red carpet, no matter what the function is, and the 2019 Fashion Awards in London was no different. Each of them came draped in full Fenty fits. Rihanna opted for a mint green satin dress, gloves, wrap, and heels with diamonds cascading down her back.
Rocky went in a slouchy black suit. The rapper has even stated that this was his favorite look that Rihanna has ever worn in a GQ interview last year. She was surprised, to say the least. “Fashion Killa”
When: 2013
If anyone wants to remember how hypebeasts aspired to dress in the early 2010s, all you have to do is watch the first couple seconds of the “Fashion Killa” music video. Rocky and Rihanna really opened this video wearing the illest Supreme pieces from the brand’s latest seasons and killed us with their fits. Rocky brought his Uptown swag Downtown with Dior Homme, Saint Laurent, and Visvim pieces.
Meanwhile, Rihanna was stunting in that zebra-patterned Tom Ford dress and Christian Louboutin's. “She’s a “Fashion Killa” in my eyes, I respect her jiggy-ness. I respect her fashion sense,” Rocky told 106 & Park when asked about RiRi’s appearance in the music video.”The whole video, we wanted to base it off art.” He later added that he and Rihanna were faded while making the video and that the chemistry between them was organic. Met Gala 2021
When: 2021
As we all know, this isn’t Rocky or Rihanna’s first Met Gala. In the past, both artists have been known to come out with some great looks. One of Rocky’s most iconic fits was a Calvin Klein ensemble designed by Raf Simons when the Belgian designer was briefly their chief creative officer back in 2017. And then there’s Rihanna, whose arrival at the Met Gala is always highly anticipated because of how insane her outfits are. Who can ever forget Rihanna’s bedazzled Pope-inspired outfit by Maison Margiela in 2018 or the three-dimensional flower dress she wore by Comme Des Garçons in 2017.
This year, for their first Met Gala visit as a couple, Rihanna and Rocky pulled out all the stops. Rocky came out wearing a giant quilted jacket inspired from a piece in ERL’s Spring 2022 collection. According to The New York Times, Eli Russell Linnetz made a custom for Rocky out of fabric scraps, antique quilts, and even his father’s own bathrobe. Rihanna came through with a dress crafted by Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga, who was in attendance and also designed looks for Tracee Ellis Ross and Kim Kardashian that evening. Of course, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky were fashionably late. But you always have to save the best for last.
Pastis (New York City)
When: 2022
On this particular date night to French restaurant Pastis, Rihanna’s fit was the standout. She paired a blue boucle mini skirt with green faux fur trim from Saint Laurent with a pair of white gladiator heels, blue track jacket from Martine Rose, and a striped fur scarf from Prada. Rocky bundled up a little more for the chilly night. He opted for an all-black fit highlighted by a black zip-up with a ostrich feather-lined hood from Alyx’s Fall 2022 collection and a pair of Prada gloves. —Mike DeStefano
SoHo
When: 2022
It has been way too cold in New York City for the entire month of January. That’s why this specific date night outfit from Rihanna is one of the wildest ones we’ve seen yet. RiRi really came outside wearing a Balenciaga puffer over a Martine Rose football jersey and nothing else below that except a pair of Amina Muaddi Georgia crystal-strap suede wrap sandals.
These are some very brave fashion choices to make during a harsh New York winter. But Rihanna still pulls it off with elegance, wearing a nice pair of Saint Laurent earrings, Miu Miu ski globes, and a R13 cap to finish off the fit. On the other hand, ASAP Rocky stays true to being a Cozy Boy. He dressed more appropriately for the frigid temperatures outside by rocking a fur coat, a floral beanie, some black jeans, a vintage crewneck, and a pair of Bottega Veneta Tire Boots.—Lei Takanashi
Bottega Veneta Store SoHo
When: 2022
Rocky may be rocking all camo in this photo, but he certainly isn’t hidden. The eye-catching fit includes a denim set covered in a classic camo print from Vetements. To fight off the cold, he paired the eccentric Canadian tuxedo with a reversible Vetements x Canada Goose Macmillan Parka from the designer’s Fall 2016 collection that it appears he may have borrowed from Rihanna’s closet. His fit wasn’t all from the Swiss designer though.
His trendy forest camo balaclava is a piece from the Los Angeles-based label, Come Back as a Flower. Rihanna’s shopping fit is a bit more subtle. She paired a black Paris hoodie from Balenciaga with a long black overcoat. The contrasting fits appears to be something the couple enjoys. They took a similar approach to their Met Gala ensembles back in September 2021 that was highlighted by the colorful quilt that Rocky wrapped himself in. —Mike DeStefano
Pregnancy Photo
When: 2022
To announce her pregnancy, Rihanna and Rocky called up Miles Diggs, a celebrity photographer who has a history of shooting Rihanna’s looks on the street and headed to Harlem. Rihanna wore a vintage pink Chanel puffer jacket from the Fall 1996 collection with baggy jeans and a Christian Lacroix necklace.
Rocky wore a denim Carhartt hoodie, a knit hooded sweater, black leather pants, and a knit beanie. It was an apropos way to let the world know that Rihanna was expecting and in line with the how we’ve engaged with Rihanna over the years.—Aria Hughes
