The Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has criticised the Education Ministry and the National Labour Commission regarding the ongoing strike by teachers' unions.

According to him, these state agencies were responsible for preventing the situation from escalating into a strike.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, March 27, he expressed concern over the adverse effects of the strike on Ghanaian students, describing the situation as regrettable and detrimental.

Mr Ahiagbah emphasised the unfortunate and counterproductive nature of the strike, highlighting the suffering endured by Ghanaian students as a result.

"The ongoing Teacher Union strike is a disappointing situation that could have been avoided. It is disheartening to see that the following parties failed to take proactive measures to prevent it."

"The National Labor Commission was aware of the looming threat of a strike but failed to take necessary action to avert it.

"The Ministry of Education, which has been doing an incredible job under President Akufo-Addo, cannot be excused for dropping the ball on this matter."

Meanwhile, he also criticised the teacher unions for leveraging students' education as a bargaining tool.

"While we respect the Teacher Unions' right to strike, it is unfair to leverage their pupils' education to drive their bargain. This is excessive and unfair to the pupils."
