The Nyimfahen of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Nana Adabo Mensah, has advised people in the Gomoa District to revive the communal spirit of their ancestor to develop the area through their collectively efforts for socio-economic development.
Nana Adabo made the call when he addressed the Chiefs and people of Gomoa-Kyiren to round off their annual "Mpontu" festival at Gomoa-Kyiren on behalf the Omanhen of the Area, Ahunako Ahor Ankobea. He expressed dissatisfaction about the apathetic attitude of the people towards communal activities and stated that 93Such an attitude is detrimental to the social and economic progress of nation at all levels".
The Traditional ruler called on the people to adopt an aggressive approach" towards development programmes initiated by the leaders to improve their living conditions.
Professor Kobina Yankson, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), appealed to parents and guardians in the District to place more emphasis on the education of their children. Nana Kwesi Bondam IV, Sahene of the Traditional Area and Odzekro of Gomoa-Kyiren, praised the people for their foresight, in establishing an educational endowment fund he launched and called on citizens of the area contribute to sustain it.
The Chairman of the Kyiren Youth Association, Mr J. W. Ponsu, appealed to the youth to show more commitment to the development of the town.
Mr. Nicholas Sam, Assemblymen for the area, suggested the passing of a by-law to ban school children from attending wake-keeping in the District to reduce teenage pregnancies.
