The Northern Regional Directorate of Education at the weekend honoured Chikpah Demuyakor, out-going Northern Regional Director of Education and some dedicated staff for their untiring service to the nation.
Mr Demuyakor who is on retirement was presented with a set of furniture, tabletop refrigerator and cash while his wife was presented with cooking utensils.
Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister expressed appreciation to Mr Demuyakor for successfully ending his career in the region with a "Good mark of success" and urged other educationists in the region to emulate him.
He said with the assistance of the Ghana Education Fund (GETFUND) educational development projects were being undertaken to improve education and advised teachers to ensure they lived up to expectation to improve on the standard of education in the region.
Alhaji Idris mentioned the new site for Tamale Girls International School at Wamle off the Tamale Yendi road, and rehabilitation of some educational infrastructure.
Mr Demuyakor called for a holistic approach to improve the standard of education in the region to ensure sustainable development.
He advised administrators of education to forge ahead in unity and collaborate with development partners to acquire more knowledge, expertise and resources to improve education in the region.
Mr Demuyakor appealed for more attention to Tamale Girls Secondary School to become the centre of excellence in girls' education in the northern part of the country.
He expressed appreciation to teachers, directors of education, the people and staff of Ghana Education Service for the honour and gave the assurance that he would avail himself to stakeholders in education in the region.
Kwesi Hobenu, Northern Regional Director of Education said the region required quality and affordable standards of education to improve the poverty levels of people in the area.
He noted that education was the greatest asset for the people and urged parents to send their children to school to become good citizens in future.
