Ashanti Regional Security Council has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the interdicted John Osei, Chairman of the Metro Mass Workers Union.
The striking workers have also been directed to resume work immediately, as steps are taken to pay their salary arrears.
This follows hours of closed door meeting between the council and the striking workers, management and other stakeholders in Kumasi on Thursday.
The workers resumed a sit-down strike on Wednesday, two weeks after calling off a similar action over salary arrears.
Matters got to a new level when management delivered a letter, interdicting the union's chairman for alleged incitement.
Industrial Relations Officer at Trade Union Congress (TUC) Kofi Adu who sat through the mediation told Luv FM's Nana Asenso Mensah that "after the long meeting we reached a consensus. The Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has directed the management of MMT to reinstate the Union Chairman John Osei".
He further recounted that "the Regional Minister has also directed management to issue clear payment plan and roadmap to settle the workers' outstanding arrears."
According to him, as part of the resolutions from the meeting, the striking workers are supposed to resume work with immediate effect.
Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Richard Osei Bamfo who also sat through the mediation assured the Council of the payment plan to settle all the workers to ensure the giant state carrier gets back on its feet.
"We have met all stakeholders including the Regional Minister who chaired the meeting and we have agreed to work together amicably, so we will resume payments as soon as possible".
He also hinted that management has rolled out payments of parts of the arrears.
"We are waiting for a stimulus package from the government to cushion the company's financial strength, nonetheless we have started paying the worker's and I am sure some have already received part of their outstanding salaries," he added
