Electricity consumers will from next month enjoy discounts for the power they have already consumed in the last three months.
For some consumers, especially those who use very little power, it may probably mean not having to pay any bill at all for their October consumption.
The discounts are the result of a combination of reliefs offered by the utility companies and government to mitigate the effect of the tariff increase in June.
The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana explained to Joy Business that the net effect of the joint relief is that, instead of paying for an average increase of 89 percent on the old pre-June tariff, consumers will see their bills going up on the average by 64 percent.
According to Cephas Gakpo, though consumers with credit meters will have to wait till the end of the month to see a reflection of the discounts, prepaid users should begin to enjoy the relief from tomorrow.
