The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang has commissioned and dedicated a newly built Junior High School to the Abuakwa South Municipal Education Directorate.

The edifice built in honour of his late mother, Vida Akosua Agyeiwaa, is situated at Asiakwa in the Eastern Region.

The new facility replaces the dilapidated Methodist Basic School structure built in 1960.

The new facility has a 3-unit spacious classrooms with learning desks, a well stocked library, a state-of-the-art ICT laboratory, a well furnished staff common room fitted with 12 workstation desks and swivel chairs, a fridge, television sets, computers, toilet facility, and overhead reservoir for water supply.

The rest include a canteen, a concrete paved compound to be used for sporting activities including volleyball, basketball and netball.

At the commissioning ceremony, Kingsley Agyemang saw the need for school children to embrace the values of humility, hardwork and kindness.

He said these are the values his late mother stood for while urging the gathering to accept these values.

He debunked claims that his drive to support the people was influenced by his aspirations to become a Member of Parliament for the area.

"It cannot be about elections because the ultimate beneficiaries of the facility (students) are ineligible to vote in national elections.

In 2016, under the government of former President Mahama, l built another JHS block in Apapam, within the same Constituency of Abuakwa South," he explained.

In order to see to the smooth maintenance of the facility, the family in collaboration with the Abuakwa South Municipal Education Directorate will constitute a governing council for the school.

The Methodist Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, Right Reverend Emmanuel Asare Kusi entreated parents to take serious interest in the upbringing of children.

In a related development, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Dr. Joy Mant joined the Scholarship Secretariat boss to dedicate a children’s worship centre to honour the memory of his late father, Barima Bosompem II who was the Kyidomhene of Kyebi.

The 500-seater capacity facility has three offices, adequate water closets with an overhead tank for water supply, furniture, musical instruments among many other equipment.

The occasion was graced by the chiefs and people of Akyem-Abuakwa led by the Okyenhemaa.

The General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu also led a number of party activists to mark the occasion.
