The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has honoured Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli and Professor Akwasi Agyeman, Board Chairman of the NSS as part of the Secretariat’s celebration of Ghana at 50.
This was in recognition of their hard work, social responsibility, distinctive creativity and remarkable prowess and invaluable contributions to the Volta Region, the NSS and the country as a whole.
Mr Ken Gyenfi, Volta Regional Coordinator of the NSS, described Togbe Afede as a philanthropist who is development oriented and not blinded by ethnicity and tribalism.
He said Togbe Afede’s exemplary initiative that resulted in securing a 500 million-dollar plant to help solve the country’s current energy crisis was remarkable.
Mr Gyenfi said the Secretariat was enthused by Togbe Afede’s imagination and devotion to the good of Ghanaians and his commitment to the "path of strictest honesty in the conduct of business affairs" for which the country would always be proud of.
Regarding Professor Agyeman, Mr Gyenfi said the Secretariat noted with pride and satisfaction the tremendous contributions that he made towards the growth of the NSS.
He said a little while after his appointment as the Board Chairman of the NSS, Professor Agyeman face lifted all the regional secretariats and equipped them with vehicles, computers, photocopiers and other materials to enhance efficiency and high productivity.
Mr Gyenfi described Professor Agyeman as a great philosopher, an astute social thinker and a veritable pillar of truth and moral principles and said the Scheme appreciated his analytical mind and the display of oratorical excellence.
He said the Scheme would always remember him for his leadership role in the implementation of the online posting and registering of service personnel and was hopeful that Professor Agyeman would continue to give inspirational leadership to the Scheme.
The two distinguished personalities each received citations and a muffler with the inscription " NSS loves you" and some parcels while Togbe Afede in addition received a portrait of himself.
Other 13 individuals including some service personnel were also honoured for their meritorious services to the Regional Secretariat.
Togbe Afede on behalf of the recipients expressed gratitude to the Secretariat for the recognition and urged the youth to uphold the spirit of selflessness to be able to make positive contributions to their communities.
He advised the Service personnel to be confident and challenge themselves by venturing into the world of business.
Togbe Afede underscored the importance of the NSS to the socio-economic development of the country and urged government to give adequate funding to the Scheme for it to serve the purpose for which it was established.
