The Ghana Red Cross Society has made a number of life-saving interventions in hostility-ridden Bawku in the Upper East Region.
The regional branch of the Society has mobilised 27 volunteer first aiders in Bolgatanga who are commuting between this location and Bawku on daily basis.
The local branch of the Society in Bawku has been assisting the wounded, the sick and pregnant women during curfew hours by conveying them to the Zebilla Hospital for medical attention.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) yesterday distributed the first consignment of food items to over one thousand families in the conflict zone which has claimed several lives and property.
The food items, according to the President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Prof Stephen Adei, included 2000 sachets salt, 10,000 litres cooking oil, 400 bags cowpea and 1,200 bags maize.
The Society is therefore appealing to all parties involved in the conflict and well-wishers to work towards lasting peace in the area.
The ICRC is an independent organisation whose objective, among other things, is to provide humanitarian protection and assistance to victims of war and armed violence.
