This article is a sequel to Vagina, men, sex and money confusion - Part I.
Remember the 'rich' party organizer whose number I gave out to a young lady? He called me.
He called several times but I didn’t pick any of his calls. I picked one unknown caller one Thursday morning and it was him, he said “Becky but why are you avoiding my calls?”
“I saw and read your article and it’s only fair to hear my side of the story because it looks like a lot of the comments were blaming the men in this case when we all know very well that women brought all these on themselves.”
I told him to call back at another since I was in the middle of production. He hesitantly agreed but insisted I called back. I never did.
I was in Kumasi one weekend to produce E-Vibes, a show I host on Joy Prime and JoyNews when he called.
His first statement was “I knew you were not going to call back and it’s so obvious that you’re already taking sides.”
I said to him; “Genuinely I was busy but why would you think I am taking sides? It’s not like the lady asked that I write about the situation? I did because I equally wanted answers. By the way, did she call? Oh! Let me rephrase. Did you have sex with her?”
He pause for a second and said “Yes, I did. Sex was the only thing she had to offer, besides she won’t be the only one to offer herself instead of getting something profitable to do. You ladies always want and aspire to be people but you’re not ready to actually put in the work for it. And this is why some of you will continue to be seen as such!”
He continued “You’re jobless or your job doesn’t pay you enough to drive a Range Rover but that’s what you want to drive! You rent plush apartments that you know very well you can’t afford, wear expensive clothes, and put on horrible makeup that deforms some of your faces and you think we don’t know?”
Not hearing anything from my end, he asked “Becky, are you still there?” Honestly, I don’t know whether I was shocked about his straightforwardness, or perhaps he was unhappy about my question.
But somewhat, I was stunned and speechless.
Nevertheless, he continued “You see when it comes to these issues, the women contribute more to it. Imagine someone you love dearly, will go out and cheat on you after giving her everything? Becks, I found out that my then-fiancée accepted me because of my money! Today women don’t want to have anything to do with you if they don’t have money. Do you think we don’t know? We know papa! That is why we have a budget for them... they think they’re smart.
“Becks let me tell you something, some of the ladies who sit on that your social media to brag about having thousands of dollars and owners of apartments are either using black magic on men they meet or something very strong because no man in his right mind will give out such things because he’s fucking you! Vagina is Vagina! It doesn’t even make economic sense to give you a house because we’re in a relationship unless we’re married and probably having children.”
I loved where the conversation was going but I had to cut. I told him it was late so we will pick up the conversation the following day.
After the rather unnerving but fascinating conversation, sleep didn’t come easy. “He’s given me another thinking job,” I thought to myself.
As an overthinker, I couldn’t help but replay, analyse and draw conclusions from what he had told me.
Eventually, the God of Sleep paid me a visit and I was at dreamlands.
I woke up the following morning and the first recollection my brains provided was the daunting discussion from the previous night.
Well, The Girl has got to work, so I dragged myself out of bed and got on the field. On my way to the location for the interview, I texted a friend of mine, Kobby.
Me: Good morning Kwabs, How are you?
Kobby: Eish! Becks how many months this? What do I owe this text this morning?
Me: Oh I’m in Kumasi for a shoot and wanted to check if you’re in your office so I pass by with my crew.
Kobby: Becky that, you can pass by it’s been a while since I last saw you.
So I took a detour to visit him.
When I got to Kobby’s office there were two people with him, I supposed they were his colleagues. He wanted them to excuse us but I insisted it was okay because it wasn’t going to take long.
We exchanged pleasantries and I asked him if I could ask him a question. He said he would be surprised if I didn’t ask him any question at all considering the fact that I’m a journalist.
I asked him “Can you buy me a Range Rover and a house?”
He said “Why Range Rover? You know my wife drives an Elantra. But why this question though?”
I said to him, “just answer.” He replied “Becks if you need help to build your own house I can support you with something small but I can’t buy you a house let alone Range Rover, maybe you should consider using the money for the car to build something small. You have to start small.”
The other two guys kept staring at me like ‘who’s this lady?’
I told Kobby to say hello to Yvonne, his wife who happens to be my cousin.
It was Kobby’s initial response and demeanor for me. Where am I getting with all this, I quizzed myself while on my way down the stairs.
My shoot was successful we traveled back to Accra and I decided to visit “Mr Party Man.”
It was a Sunday afternoon, he said it’s free time for him, I pulled up in an Uber car in front of what can be described as a mansion. I was then ushered in like one of those important people you see on TV.
You should see me walking towards the main door to the house like Mr Bones in Kuvukiland. There were four cars in all parked, a giant television on the porch with everything decorated in white color.
He opened the door to his hall and I was wowed! From the couches to the fluffy white carpet to the gold-themed minibar and a touch of British dining set.
He said, “close your mouth, Becky.” I didn’t even know when my jaw dropped, man.
I gave him a shy smile and said “I think the television is taking too much space, pointing to the only thing that caught my attention!”
After sipping on the glass of water I requested, I asked my host why I was there. He said, “you’re too straight forward you just got here.”
But I thought to myself ‘Someone has got to start this conversation.’
Picking it up from where we left off on the phone, he said “Becky, I know what you’re driving at, but unfortunately, things will never go back to normal. People will always have sex, however, they do it, and it’s entirely their problem. Whether the man gave money before sex, was offered sex before giving out money, nothing will change. And you know one secret? The ladies who offer themselves for the money, we know them all. We don’t marry those ones. It’s just for the fun of it."
At this point, I think he was tired of the whole topic thereby concluded in that manner. He changed the topic wanting to know what I really do as a presenter/ producer at The Multimedia Group.
But I told him to pay more attention to E-Vibes and ensure he is watching the entertainment news both on JoyNews and Joy prime.
I guess I got all the answers I needed, I thought to myself. Then I said to him ‘I have to run”. He exclaimed “Ah! But you just got here?”
I explained I had to go make myself useful, he offered me a lift in one of his fancy automobiles. I jumped into the front seat.
On our way to my house I also got to know the different types of men there are according to my new friend after I asked him why some men flee when they notice they'll never get lucky with the woman.
He said “What you don't know is that there are others in a queue waiting or even begging the men in other cases so no time to waste on one person. Some men also normally have targets, when they don't reach that target, they do anything to get it. This is when they deliberately have a budget for you”
“Budget?” I feigned surprise. He said “yes, then his phone rang, he asked that I pick up and tell the person he's not available.”
I did just that. Shortly after, my niece, Anabelle who got a phone not too long called me on a video call asking me to help her with what Cavemen use as clothes in the olden days. As I type I’m yet to give her an answer!
