Just another weekend run in the Ashiaman market because the cassava dough seller’s prices are moderate.
That goes for the onions and palm oil sellers too (Straight from the Volta region). I think we all can feel the hike in prices of everything, so I won't bore you with that conversation. Read about it on Myjoyonline.com.
So at a mini convenience shop just opposite where I got my Salmon (the one from Abidjan), for some reason the thought of our mechanic came to mind. I was getting ready to get him some groceries and few things for the house because I was yet to visit him and his newborn. He told me about the arrival of his new bundle of joy a month ago.
But according to my brother, the child our mechanic I’m told had last month turned out not to be his.
He took care of the pregnancy and the mother because that was his ‘Woman’ until just a month after the baby was born that the lady told him the baby belonged to someone else.
I asked where he heard that from and my brother told me the mechanic confided in him. The conversation ended; I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t call him to say anything because what in God's name will I tell a person going through that kind of situation? God be with you? Or how are you feeling? Or here are a few things I got you and the baby?
Frankly, I had no idea, so I let it go for that moment. I said you can’t be a hero in every situation, Becky, and that’s okay.
Later that evening, I chanced on a friend’s status. He wrote, “80% of breakups are initiated by women.” Here’s our conversation after I commented:
I don’t agree but….
Friend: It's a fact. Stats don't lie.
Me: If the stats think 80 percent of breakups are initiated by women, then the men weren’t that interested in the relationship to begin with.
Friend: There we go
Stats and facts. Women leave relationships more than men.
Me: To wait for a woman to initiate a breakup before they take action?
Friend: Stats and facts. Women leave relationships more than men.
Me: If we leave, why do you think that is? Who's to blame? The woman? Why are we not talking about the actual cause of her leaving?
He called right away. He called me because I guess texting wasn’t going to convince me enough, and I needed to further understand what he meant by that. So when I picked up, he said, "Must you argue about everything? Just google it; the statistics don’t lie."
Now men are the prize, ooo; if you think you want to leave, you can go ahead; nobody will chase you; that era is gone.
I even had to advise my young boys that they’re the prize. I told him to relax because I was only trying to point out to whoever came up with the statistics that 80% of breakups in relationships are initiated by women to consider the actual cause of the said break. Where from? Men are the Prize?
He said, "Becky, let me tell you something; now men don't care. They are more focused on their peace and well-being that they do not allow women to stress them with their drama.
If you think you are done with the relationship, you can go. No one will beg you to stay. You took your decision; own it!"
Do you notice the number of men who chase you in your 20s reduces drastically when you are in your 30s? We are the prize. Know this and know peace.
At this point, I had a lot to ask just for clarity, but let it go; I needed to catch some sleep before sunrise. Did I let it go? No, because I woke up thinking about the whole conversation and thinking to myself if men are really the prize.
American comedian actor and rapper Karlous Miller said something in an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shayshay; he said, "I'm not even perusing; we’re not going anywhere unless you like me first."
He was answering a question about how he picks his dates. He added, "How do you all use your fame?" I guess he meant he's the prize; the women choose him because they like him first, so there was no need to do a week of persuasion with dates and flowers in between before finally committing.
That makes sense; men are actually the Prize, I thought. It depends on how you see it, really! Also, if you think about it literally, for those of you who have subscribed to dating apps, you will notice you'd have to pay, swipe on the guys, and literally be the first to text him.
I will tell you more about Dating app experiences in my next article, but men, tell me, Why do you think you're the prize when it comes to relationships and women, do you think men are really the prize? Because that's not what Lori Harvey said.
Here are samples of opinions on this topic.
My lawyer friend sent this
“If both people have mutual respect and love for one another it'll eliminate that whole question of who is the prize”
