Just a few hours to his 22nd birthday, Marcus Rashford revealed yet another stunning performance against Lampard's side. The opener in the first half saw Ole's side cruise into a comfortable lead. Chelsea looked very composed, making a lot of touches, runs all through the first 20 minutes of the game until Alonso's untimely challenge on Daniel James gave the visitors a penalty.
Rashford immediately stepped forward to take the penalty and with a cool head, put to bed any demon that may have been lingering from his missed spot-kick in Sunday’s away win at Norwich. With a calm composure, Rashford kicked the ball to the left bottom corner sending the confident looking Caballero the wrong way. Rashford has now recorded a total of 9 spot-kicks, scoring 7. Sunday away game saw Rashford miss his second penalty of his career so far following an earlier miss against Crystal Palace in the Premier League this season.
Rashford sends Manchester United into the lead from his spot-kick
Desperately fighting for an equalizer, Chelsea came very close after the low cross from the young talent, Reece James couldn’t find its way to the foot of Pulisic after Wan Bissaka as solid as he was, floated the ball towards the centre circle. The first half came to an end with Rashford's penalty separating both sides. The second half began as Chelsea looking very eager to level, saw their first shot on target turning into a goal they had long for. After Caballero's clearance into Manchester United's half, Batshuayi broke away from both Maguire and Fred to strike an absolute fine finish through the right bottom corner leaving Romero to dive into the wind.
After the parity between both sides restored, Ole's double change saw Martial and Pereira replacing Lindelof and Lingard respectively, an attempt to change the tie. Just after five minutes, the home side brought on the young talent (Mason Mount) and the most experienced attacker (Pedro) than any from both sides to counter the tie as well. The red devil who was only about three hours to his celebrating his 22nd birthday stole the entire show after striking a sensational free-kick, 40 yards away, putting the ball behind Caballero who appeared helpless. The distance and power of the kick saw many thinking if it was truly going to yield results until it ended behind the net. The whole place took into an uproar as the away side took the lead again in the 73rd minute from Rashford's amazing free-kick. Rashford has now scored goals against Chelsea this season.
