Milovan Rajevac has confirmed opening talks with the Ghana Football Association over a new contract as he distances himself from reports in Serbia that he is close to taking over as coach of the European country.
Representatives of the Black Stars coach in a statement have dismissed media reports which claimed last week that a deal had been reached for Rajevac coach Serbia.
"Milovan Rajevac is fully contracted to be the coach of the national team of Ghana and at no time has he or his representatives spoken to the Serbia Football Association about taking over the job of coaching the Serbian national team.
"In fact we have started talks with the Ghana Football Association over his expiring contract and we have given our words with the Ghana authorities over this.
"Mr. Rajevac is a man of honour and will not renege on the promises he has made to the Ghana Football Association.
"Even though Rajevac has not extended his contract with Ghana yet, his words to the Ghana FA over his new contract, is stronger than his signature," portions of the statement read.
The ‘Zornal’ newspaper reported last week Milovan Rajevac was to become the coach of his homeland's national team.
Rajevac, who led Ghana to a historic quarter-final finish at the World Cup is nearing the end of his initial 2-year contract with the Ghana Football Association but has stated his intentions to extend his stay.
STATEMENT ON PURPORTED APPOINTMENT OF MILOVAN RAJEVAC AS COACH OF SERBIA
Virtus International, the represetatives of Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac, are alarmed by a publication in the 21st July edition of the ‘Zournal’ claiming that our client has been appointed as the coach of Serbia.
We wish to state emphatically that the publication is palpably false.
Milovan Rajevac is fully contracted to be the coach of the national team of Ghana and at no time has he or his representatives spoken to the Serbia Football Association about taking over the job of coaching the Serbian national team.
In fact we have started talks with the Ghana Football Association over his expiring contract and we have given our words with the Ghana authorities over this.
Mr. Rajevac is a man of honour and will not renege on the promises he has made to the Ghana Football Association.
Even though Rajevac has not extended his contract with Ghana yet, his words to the Ghana FA over his new contract, is stronger than his signature.
We also wish to state that Ratomir Antic, is a personal friend of Mr. Rajevac and such a publication is calculated to damage the relationship between the two great coaches.
Mr. Antic has a contract with the Serbian FA and that must be respected by the media as Mr. Rajevac is not interested in any surreptitious deals.
As such we want the general public to disregard the publication as Mr. Rajevac is still the coach of Ghana and he is looking forward negotiating a new deal with the Ghana Black Stars.
Thank you
Signed
Goran Milovanovic
