About 60 pupils of Bonkuru Primary School in Nkoranza District have been compelled to study under trees following the collapse of their four-classroom structure during a rainstorm that hit the area recently.
Peter Laar, the Headteacher of the school said that the disaster had affected academic work since the weather was not suitable for the pupils to attend classes under trees.
He said settler farmers from the northern parts of the country occupied the area and lived in thatched houses and that there were no proper buildings where the pupils could be accommodated.
He complained that the teachers also faced accommodation problem.
Mr. Osei Tahidu, the circuit supervisor in-charge of Ayerede area schools and responsible for the Bonkuru Primary School, said the collapsed structure was just a "death trap" as it was not clad.
He called on the district assembly to construct a three-classroom block for the school to relieve the community of the accommodation problem facing the school.
Community leaders in the area have appealed to the district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation to support the rehabilitation of structures affected by the rainstorm.
