Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo has captured a lot of hearts after convincing displays for Spanish La Liga Celta Viga.
The summer signing scored high marks on his debut against Valencia and followed up with another convincing performance against Sevilla.
Aidoo, 23, has been talking about his early-season form, comparing the La Liga to the Swedish and Belgian top-flights where he played for Hammarby and Genk respectively.
Joy Sports Ridwan Ibrahim Asante put a few questions to him with the help of his agent Omar El-Eter of Proball Management.
Good day, Joseph...How are you feeling a day after your debut?
Good day! I feel great, thank you.
Have picked some few Spanish words since you landed at Celta Vigo?
Vamos chicos; meaning Come on guys. Derecha; meaning right
How do you like SPAIN and how have you settled down?
Spain is cool. The weather is nice. The language is a bit challenging but I am picking up on it bit by bit.
Your progress has been tremendous. From Inter Allies where you helped to qualify to Premier League and later became captain of the team before moving to Hammarby in Sweden and you kept growing and growing, What would you say about your growth and What encouraged you?
Learning different areas of the game every day. Working well with teammates. Positive and negative, challenging that I worked to overcome. I also study a lot from former players such as Samuel Osei Kuffour; I see him as my mentor...watching his YouTube videos always and I even had the opportunity to speak with him when the national team went to Egypt.
How would you rate your performance in your debut game, because the statistics say you did marvellously well...which of course we at Joy Sports think so.
It was a great performance...all I can do is look forward and hope for the best and consistent throughout the season.
Did you get any encouraging words from your teammates or coaches before and after the final whistle?
Before the game, the coach came to me and said I don’t have to impress anyone. He said he knows the kind of player I am and so I should do what I do best. He also said he believes in me. It motivated me even more to give my best.
How different is the La Liga compared to Sweden and Belgium?
Compared Sweden and Belgium, La Liga is a matured league both technically and tactically. The players all possess an individual level of quality that when brought together, makes things happen greatly. I also think the game here is faster on the pitch.
How has your agent Mr.Omar and his ProBall Management team helped you in your career path so far.
I’m thankful for all of ProBall Management team.
You are now a Black Stars player. Hopefully, Celta would help you become key for the national team. Would you be happy for future call ups?
Why not?! It will be an honour to keep playing for the National Team.
Finally, what is your target for the season after such a bright debut?
To stay consistent and help win games and most importantly, be one of the best center backs of all times.
