Two goals of breath taking genius in 25 minutes, by one man, Yaw Antwi symbolized Liberty's long awaited revenge over Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
It was day two of the Ghalca Glo top 4 tournament at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadiumon Wednesday, and Kotoko were the overwhelming favourites, but 15 minutes into the game, pundits began to revise their notes.
A total team performance by Liberty, but with a singular touch of class by Yaw Antwi, put Liberty ahead as early as the 7th minute.
Rampaging run on the left by Richard Kissi, coupled with his tailor measured cross, met a stupendous over head kick by Antwi for Liberty's opener.
In a similar fashion, Richard Kissi teasingly outwitted his marker on the left sent in cross which was cleared, but only as far as Yaw Antwi, whose volley outside the 18 yard box eluded Eric Nii Baah in post for Kotoko.
That was Liberty's second in 25 minutes.
Kotoko were a pale shadow of themselves. A porous defence disorganised mid field and an uninspiring attack led by Obeng Darko and Kojo Poku left supporters sitting on tongs for the most part of the first half.
In the 35th minute Kojo Poku came close in a rare attempt of a consolation, but Liberty's defence proved resilient.
If the first half was interesting, the second was even drammatic.
Usual suspects, Eric Bekoe, Samuel Inkum, and Jordan Opoku who were perhaps reserved for Kotoko's crucial confederations cup tier with El-marriek of Sudan on Sunday were called to duty.
Their presence marked an expected revival for the porcupine warriors.
Unfortunately for Liberty Yakubu Seidu took an early shower in the 58th minute after a second bookable offence.
But Kotoko could not maximise their numerical advantage.
Yaw Antwi in a spate of five minutes had three glaring opportunities to score but with only the goal keeper to beat he shot wide.
Credit must however be given to goal keeper Eric Nii Baah who saved the blushes of the porcupine warriors.
In the 63rd minute the whole stadium was in raptors after a Francis Akuafo strike, but that could only be a consolation.
A powerful strike by Skipper Emmanuel Osei Kufuor, in the dying embers of the game, a curling shot from Samuel Inkum which took a ricochet of the post typified the unsuccessful attempt by Kotoko to snatch a priceless equaliser.
A well determined Liberty Professionals jumped on top of the competition with six points courtesy the 2-1 victory over Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The result proved disastrous for a Kumasi Asante Kotoko side gunning for their second trophy in the Ghalca Top four tournament.
Elsewhere Berekum Arsenals were held to 1-1 drawn game by Kpando Hearts of Lions at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
