Drama unfolded at an Accra Circuit Court on Monday when a 60-year-old mother prayed the court to punish her son, who had inflicted wounds on his half-brother to enable her to have peace in her home.
Madam Julian Annan, answering a question from the court after the charge of causing harm levelled against her son, Charles Lamptey, was read out, expressed concern about her son's behaviour.
Lamptey, who attacked his elder brother, Mr Samuel Don Bortey, a painter with a broken bottle and inflicted wounds on his head after biting his chest, pleaded guilty to causing harm.
The court, presided over by Mr Nathaniel Osam in commending Madam Annan for taking a wise decision, sentenced Lamptey to two years' imprisonment in hard labour.
The court further urged parents to correct their children whenever they were wrong and avoid pampering them in order to avert any disastrous consequence.
Lamptey, unemployed, however, showed no remorse over his conviction as he left the dock and clapped loudly before stretching forth his hand to be handcuffed and sent to prison.
He also promised his mother of "more action" on his return from jail.
Chief Inspector J.K. Anim said on August 24, this year, Lamptey was seen selling water from a reservoir belonging to his grandmother and pocketing the proceeds.
Mr Bortey advised Lamptey to stop what he was doing and look for a more genuine venture instead of selling the water to the detriment of his grandmother.
The prosecution said Lamptey did not take kindly to Mr Bortey's advice. He went to Bortey's veranda, pounded him, bit his chest and used a broken bottle to inflict wounds on his head and parts of his body.
