Puma Energy Ghana is reinforcing its commitment to road safety by hosting the 7th edition of its Transporters Safety Quiz, an initiative aimed at promoting safe driving practices among transporters.

This year's event brought together key stakeholders in the road safety sector, including transport companies, government agencies, and industry experts, to discuss and reinforce the importance of road safety.

The Transporters Safety Quiz, which is held annually, serves as an educational platform for Puma Energy Ghana's contracted transporters. The quiz aims to raise awareness about road safety, encourage safe driving habits, and honor transporters who prioritize safety standards. It also fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants.

Recent statistics from the Ghana National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) highlight the urgent need for road safety initiatives. Between January and July 2024, Ghana witnessed a concerning 7,470 road traffic incidents involving over 12,600 vehicles, resulting in 9,965 casualties, including 1,405 fatalities.

This marks a troubling 13% increase in road fatalities compared to the same period in 2023. These statistics underline the importance of ongoing road safety efforts.

The 2024 quiz was an engaging and lively event, hosted by renowned national quiz master Dan Afari Yeboah. Participants, including representatives from Puma Energy Ghana's contracted transporters RIET Transport, J.K. Ahiadome Transport, and J.K. Horgle Transport demonstrated their knowledge and commitment to road safety through a competitive four-round quiz.

In a thrilling contest, RIET Transport emerged as the champions, successfully defending their title from 2023. The winning team received a cheque, certificate, and commemorative plaque in recognition of their achievement.

The event was attended by several key figures, including representatives from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), National Road Safety Authority, Ghana National Fire Service, Association of Oil Marketing Companies, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). This wide-ranging support reflects the broader engagement of the oil and gas sector in promoting road safety.

Samba Diop, General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to safety,

"At Puma Energy, safety is at the core of our operations. It's more than just a priority; it's integral to our business. The Transporters Quiz highlights the value of knowledge-sharing and collaboration in advancing road safety. We are dedicated to working with our employees, contractors, and stakeholders to create a safer road environment," he stated

As part of its broader efforts to enhance safety, Puma Energy Ghana has implemented the Intelligent Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) across its fleet operations. The technology helps drivers improve their behavior, reduce incidents of speeding, and comply with industry regulations, fostering a culture of safety within the company and among its partners.

The event also featured remarks from Jacob Amoah, Coordinator of the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at the NPA, who commended Puma Energy Ghana for its proactive approach to road safety.

He also highlighted the positive impact of the UPPF in improving business operations within the transport sector. Felix Owusu, a representative from the NRSA, also praised Puma Energy's initiative and urged transporters to become ambassadors of road safety, sharing their knowledge with other drivers.

Puma Energy Ghana's commitment to safety is evident in its impressive track record. Over the past five years, the company has maintained a low Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), underscoring its dedication to minimizing accidents and injuries related to its operations.

As part of its broader corporate responsibility, Puma Energy continues to invest in initiatives that not only enhance road safety but also support sustainable energy practices in Ghana. With over 60 retail outlets across the country, Puma Energy is recognized as a leading provider of safe and reliable fuel solutions.

Through events like the Transporters Safety Quiz, Puma Energy Ghana is playing an instrumental role in fostering a safer and more responsible driving culture in the country.
