The Provincial Grand Lodge South-East under the Grand Lodge of Ghana (GLOG), has in the last one month supported two hospitals in the country.
The Princess Marie-Louise Hospital in Accra and Atua Government Hospital at Odumase-Krobo were beneficiaries as part of its 2019-2020 annual Charity activity.
The support is also part of GLOG’s assistance to public health institutions in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
Replacement of Mosquito Netting and Installation of Insect Killing Devices at the Princess-Marie-Louise Hospital
The PGLSE on June 24, at an official ceremony, handed over the completed project to the authorities of the Princess Marie-Louise Hospital, within the premises of the hospital also known as Children Hospital.
The project involved the replacement of the entire mosquito netting of the wards and offices of the hospital and the installation of six units of Insect-O-Cutor electronic flying insect-killing devices.
The project aimed at supporting the fight of government in curbing the malaria menace to the population and particularly to children who, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are the first victims of this scourge, with over one million of them dying from the disease each year.
The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Brother Dzifa French Cudjoe was accompanied by the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Brother Godson Adadevoh and other officers of the Grand Lodge and the Province.
In his brief handing over an address, he said the project was carefully selected by the Board of the Province against the background of the rise in malaria cases within the catchment area of the Hospital.
He was emphatic the support was aimed at helping to reduce malaria mortality rate among the children.
This was in the presence of the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Hospital, Reverend Father Nii Lantey Campbell as well as the management and some staff and a representative of the Ministry of Health.
Reverend Father Campbell, in his acceptance address, expressed the gratitude of the management and staff of the hospital to the Lodge for its timely support.
The support coincided with the 95th Anniversary of the establishment of Princess Marie-Louise Hospital, so named after the Granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
He described the support as “a noble and worthy gesture” and urged the Lodge to continue supporting the Hospital to enable it to pursue quality healthcare service delivery to needy families within its catchment area.
The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Maame Yaa Nyarko thanked the Provincial Grand Lodge South-East for selecting her facility as the 2019-2020 beneficiary of the yearly charity activity.
She added that the project comes as a major relief package to the staff who are equally victims of malaria.
Medical Superintendent pledged that the devices will be taken care of to last their life span.
Donation of PPEs to Atua Government Hospital
On July 21, an eight-man Delegation of the Provincial Grand Lodge South-East, led by the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Brother Godson Adadevoh, was at the Atua Government Hospital to donate a set of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
This donation was in response to a distress call from the hospital authorities a couple of weeks ago for such assistance.
At the brief ceremony held at the hospital, and in the presence of selected management and staff members, Brother Godson Adadevoh on behalf of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Brother Dzifa French Cudjoe and members of his delegation, congratulated the management and staff for their sacrifice and resilience as frontline workers.
He added that the entire country owes them, and indeed all medical workers from all regions, tons of gratitude and God’s protection.
The items donated included two boxes of AK 57 Catherine surgical masks; five cartons of latex medical examination gloves containing 1000 gloves each; five boxes of KN 95 face masks containing 40 pieces each and three infrared thermometers.
The Principal Health Service Administrator of the Hospital, Samuel Ghartey Frimpong, who received the PPEs on behalf of management and staff, expressed his profound gratitude to them for the timely intervention in their time of need.
He promised that the items will be put to good use. He informed the delegation that Atua Government Hospital serves a lot of patients in its catchment area and beyond.
Mr Ghartey used the occasion to appeal to other well-meaning and charitable organisations to emulate the good example of the Province, to enable them to continue providing effective and quality healthcare service delivery to the population.
The Principal Pharmacist of the hospital, Bertha Abakah, on behalf of management and staff, thanked the Deputy Provincial Grand Master and members of his delegation for their gesture and kind words, and wished them safe return to Accra.
