The Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG) reelected Proper Yao Ledi as its national President at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Accra.
Mr Ledi was elected unopposed to serve another three-year term, as no other person filed to contest when that nomination closed.
At the swearing-in, supervised by Supreme Court Judge Justice Yoni Kulendi, Mr Ledi promised to continue working with the Association's executives to champion the cause of the building construction sector.
He thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to constantly engage with government and other stakeholders to address challenges working against the growth and development of the sector.
Mr Ledi used the opportunity to challenge government to live up to its promise to support local business. He urged government to stand by its word to use indigenous contractors for its planned hospital projects and make the process fair and open to all qualified contractors.
According to him, the Association is ready to work more closely with government to address the country’s housing and related needs.
“We have gotten ourselves in readiness to work with government on key projects, so government should pull us along all the time and engage with us at early stages of such projects”.
Mr. Ledi also announced efforts to partner some strategic investors to strengthen the financial and technical muscle of the Association and its members in order to take on bigger projects in the country and other West African countries.
He said the coming into being of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), opens doors for Ghanaian contractors to seek opportunities in other African countries.
The ABCECG national president explained that it was within the context of the expected opportunities within Ghana and beyond, that the Association is enhancing its financial and technical abilities by partnering with key international players.
He noted that despite the perennial challenges, the prospects were looking good.
Other executives of ABCECG are Tony Asante as 1st Vice President, Harry Anim-Danso as 2nd Vice President, Martin Ganyo Nukpezah as Treasurer and Deladem Ocloo as Assistant Treasurer.
The rest are Abdul Kadri Mahamudu, Northern Sector Organiser, and Sampson Ayiku Southern Sector Organiser.
The Association also has Agnes Ofori, George Peter Grant, William Dogbe, Charles Sieseagh as trustees, and Emanuel Swanzy-Krah as advisors.
