Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has acknowledged his team is constantly under pressure, regardless of where they play, as they adjust to using the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium for home matches this season.
Kotoko extended their unbeaten run in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions FC Samartex on matchday seven, despite the challenges of playing their home games away from Kumasi due to ongoing renovations at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“Everywhere Kotoko plays, there is pressure,” Ogum stated, highlighting the high expectations from the club’s passionate supporters, which makes coaching in the top flight a demanding challenge.
Ogum expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform under pressure, emphasizing that fans' expectations remain high regardless of the venue.
“It’s not only at Baba Yara, here [at Obuasi] too there is pressure, but I think we have managed it very well,” he said in an interview with Kotoko media.
Looking ahead, Ogum is optimistic about the team’s progress and hinted at plans to bolster the squad for the second half of the season.
“I think in the second round, we will strengthen the team in areas where we need reinforcement. If you look at our squad, we have fewer numbers, so we need to augment it.”
He also addressed the team’s goal-scoring challenges, expressing confidence that their increased efforts on target would soon pay off.
“If you compare our shots on target, they are more than in previous games. Now that the shots are hitting the target and the goalkeepers are saving them, it is only a matter of time before they find the back of the net. It’s a gradual process.”
With this victory, Kotoko remains unbeaten and currently sits second on the league table with 14 points, while FC Samartex, in fifth place with 10 points, continues their search for consistency.
