Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, on Thursday called on managements of hotels, chop bars and restaurants to improve service delivery during the forthcoming African Cup of Nations soccer tournament.
He made the call at a meeting with frontline staff of the hospitality industry, organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, and the Ghana Tourist Board at Takoradi.
Mr Nkrumah said visitors to the country during the tournament must be made to return home with fond memories of the event and the hospitality of Ghanaians.
He urged the frontline staff to treat guests with respect and project a positive image of Ghana during and after the tournament.
Mr Nkrumah said the Metropolitan Assembly was doing everything possible to keep the metropolis clean, adding that the people should complement these efforts in their communities and workplaces.
He said adequate street lighting would be provided to protect
lives and property at night. "Security would in no way be compromised," he added.
Mr Abeiku Dickson, Special Assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, said apart from the tournament being a sport event, it is essentially a tourism event, that require host cities to exhibit the highest standards to support the country's drive.
He said about 95 percent of hotels in the host cities were ready to welcome visitors.
