Akwasi Adu Gyan has been nominated by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo for the Bono East Regional Minister position.
When approved by the 8th Parliament after vetting, he will be the second Regional Minister for the Bono East Region, 4 years after the region was created. The first was the outgoing Minister, Kofi Amoakohene.
Mr Akwasi Adu Gyan, is 60 years a native of Jema in the Kintampo South district, he is married with two male children, he is a politician, Christian, and Educationist.
He has over 20 years of experience in Information Communication Technology in the areas of Systems Engineering and Architecture, Programming, Consulting, Training and Policy.
"At the Ministry of Communication, Mr. Adu-Gyan is credited with the successful implementation of the Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, and the Ghana Multimedia Incubator Center and initiated the ICT Entrepreneurship Project for the establishment of an ICT park for Ghana at the Tema Free Zones..."
Additionally, Adu-Gyan has been championing the cause of Business Process Outsourcing in Ghana, as a Technical Advisor to the government and Director ITES, the results of which are evident in the AT Kearney global Services Location Index 2009.
He worked for several well-known fortune 100 corporations, including IBM Corporations, Arthur Andersen LLP/Andersen Consulting and Trans Union Corporation.
Prior to joining the Ministry of Communications in 2003, Adu-Gyan held several technical and management positions in the United States representing his employers on projects in USA and outside in Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, and the Philippines) and Mexico.
He was educated at Devry University and DePaul University, both of which are in Chicago – USA.
He had groomed several executives and mentored many entrepreneurs, led several technology initiatives at various projects on innovation, e-governance, corporate strategy, social entrepreneurship and education as an ICT Advisor and Consultant to the Government of Ghana and the World Bank.
Mr. Adu-Gyan is also credited with the successful implementation of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, the Ghana Multimedia Incubator Centre (GMIC) and the Community Information Centre Project of the Government of Ghana and UNDP.
As the first CEO of ITES Secretariat, a component of the World Bank e-Ghana project, within two years under his directorship, Ghana attained a recognised position at the AT Kearney Global Services Location index 2008/2009.
Ghana ranked first (1st) followed closely by India on financial attractiveness for business process outsourcing and other IT services and top ranking position in Sub-Sahara Africa; second (2) in Africa and fifteen (15) Globally.
Until 2009, he was a member of NEPAD E-School Continental Coordinating Team and the President Special Initiative on Distance Learning.
Mr. Adu-Gyan’s experience includes more than six years as a Principal Consultant, consulting for renewable energy company, Solargiga Energy Holdings in China and its affiliate DCH Energy of Germany.
Solargiga is the only enterprise in China honoured as ‘National Product Exemption from Quality Surveillance Inspection’ on monocrypstalline silicon ingot for solar cell.
It is a high-tech enterprise in the development, manufacturing and marketing of monocrystalline silicon products. Solargiga is listed on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
Being the former Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP, the president, on July 19, 2017, Nana Akufo-Addo elected him as the new Director-General of the Ghana India Kofi Annan ICT Centre of Excellence.
His nomination has been welcomed by many individuals and groups within the the entire region.
He is said to know the NPP inside out and also very familiar with the socio-cultural and political dynamics of the Bono East Region.
He has been tipped as someone who has what it takes to unify the rank and file of the NPP in the Bono East Region and the ability to work with all stakeholders in the Region.

Kwasi Adu-Gyan brings on board three decades of information technology knowledge and experience gained at multinational/fortune 100 and midsize companies such as IBM Corporation, Trans Union Corporation, Andersen Consulting/Arthur Andersen (now Accenture) in the United States and World Bank/GoG and Ministry of Communications in Ghana.
Mr. Adu-Gyan is the current Director General of the Ghana India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE). Within four years as a Director General of the Center, he has established two (2) additional branches one in the Middle Belt and another in the Northern Belt of Ghana.
He has successfully established four (4) state of the art facilities i.e. Free & Open Source Software Development Center in Bolgatanga, Smart Technology Research Resource Center in Sunyani, Software Quality Assurance, and E-Learning Facilities in Accra. AITI-KACE under his leadership has developed homegrown indigenous operating system and software solutions for educational and institutional applications.
They include EduNOSS, e-Leave, e- Notice, e-Ledger, API solutions for financial institutions. Additionally, Dynamic Spectrum Allocation Technology is being tested as an alternate to GSM for affordable internet connectivity for educational as well as public sector usage in 2021. Created a Consultancy, Research and Innovation departments that is providing cutting-edge consultancy, management, research and application development services in ICT, management and related areas.
