The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor John Evans Atta Mills has said the call on workers to sacrifice would be appropriate if those who are making the demand themselves exhibit
tendencies of sacrifice.
He said it becomes practically impossible for those who are dirtying their hands and digging their feet in, to continue to make sacrifices whilst those in authority live in opulence.
In a statement issued in Accra congratulating workers on May Day, Prof. Mills said he shares in the concerns of all Ghanaian workers especially the over 90 housemen who have been summarily dismissed by the Korle Bu authorities when all they were doing was to ask their employers to make good their promises.
Prof Mills said the country is in serious crisis in all sectors; from labour through to energy to the economy. He said as much as workers are required to make love-of-nation stand tall amongst their priorities, it would be totally unfair to ask them to operate on empty stomachs.
He wished workers the best on this day and ask of them to continue to soldier on in the interest of the nation adding things will surely get better once a more committed government is given the mandate to govern.
