Ex-deputy communications minister has advised government to proceed cautiously in its quest to review the GT/Vodafone agreement signed last year.
Hon. Fred Opare Ansah expressed fears the review could erode investor confidence if not done properly.
His comments come in the wake of a five member committee instituted by the Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrisu to look into the sale of Ghana Telecom to mobile communications giants Vodafone.
The NDC as part of its campaign promises pledged to investigate circumstances under which the company was sold and promised to review portions it believes were not in the interest of the country.
Four months after it won power questions have been raised about the commitment of the government in fulfilling its campaign promise.
Hon. Opare Ansah in an interview with Joy News hoped the minister’s action is not to yield to public pressure.
He was confident the sales agreement was done in a transparent manner, adding, the terms of reference for the newly constituted committee were extensively dealt with before approval by parliament.
The committee among other things is to look into why the fibre optic back bone was included in the sales agreement, whether there were better offers, and justification for the inclusion of an indemnity clause.
Seventy per cent shares of Ghana Telecom was officially sold at $900 million to British Communication giants Vodafone last year.
