The Ghana Prisons Service has received cash and assorted food and other items worth GH ¢210,000 from the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) at a brief ceremony in Accra.
The items are for the upkeep of inmates of the Senior Correctional Center, formerly the Bostal Institute for Juveniles located at Roman Ridge in Accra.
The items included Maize, rice, beans, Gari, Cocoa products, detergents, soaps. Cooking oil, water, cloths and other items.
The charity donation is an annual initiative by staff of NAFCO towards the needy as part of the company’s corporate social responsibilities.
Last year, staff of the company made similar donation to inmates of the Royal Seed Home and Orphanage at Kasoa in the Central Region.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Kofi Amankwah handed over the items to the Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Victoria Adzewodah.
“Towards the end of every year, our staff across the country contribute their token and supported by the company and some of our Suppliers, we are able to extend goodwill to the les priviledged in society”, he explained.
He commended the rehabilitation role of the Ghana prisons especially in ensuring that young persons are reformed against delinquency and petty crimes.
He reiterated the commitment of the company to ensure adequate food security for the country.
CSP Victoria Adzewodah expressed gratitude to NAFCO for the gesture, describing it as timely and most opportune.
“This is a huge relief and we are extremely grateful for this”, she added.
