The General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Bright Blewu, has commended the executive and members of the Western regional branch of the GJA for their determination to own and operate a press centre.
Mr. Blewu led a three-member delegation from the national secretariat of the association to inspect rehabilitation works at the centre in Takoradi.
Other members of the delegation were Mrs Yaa Oforiwaa Asare-Peasah, GJA Treasurer, Mrs Marian Kyei, a member of the GJA Ethics Committee and Mr Kwesi Afriyie-Badu, Chief Executive Officer of the KAB Governance Consult.
They inspected the offices, computer room and conference hall.
He said the bold decision by the Western regional executive to find a place for media personnel in the region must encourage other regions to do likewise.
Mr Blewu said the press centre would serve as the nerve centre of all media activities in the region and would also become available to the general public for press conferences and other interactive activities with the media.
He thanked Mr. Anthony E. Amoah, the Western Regional Minister, and the RCC for providing the GJA with a secretariat.
He reminded all corporate entities in the region to assist the media in its drive to achieve excellence.
Mr. George A. Naykene and Sam M. Essien, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Western region GJA, took the executives round the centre.
Mr. Naykene said the forthcoming CAN 2008 and the December 2008 general elections were the two major motivating factors for the press centre.
