Posters of Akufo-Addo defaced in Ho

Posters of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, are being defaced in the Ho Municipality and other parts of the Volta Region. Visits to parts of the Ho township showed that in some cases the posters were either torn off from the walls completely or they were defaced. In some instances, his posters were completely covered with other event posters. The NPP's Volta Regional Organiser, Mr Johnson Avulete, had attributed the situation to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which, he claimed, had become jittery due to the gains being made by Nana Akufo-Addo in the region. Mr Avulete said the move by the NDC formed part of an orchestration to make unpopular the NPP leader, who had won the hearts of a good number of voters in the region. He announced that they had put a committee in place to work at exposing those behind the practice for them to be arrested and prosecuted. The NDC has debunked the assertion of the NPP and called on it to look out for the culprits from within the NPP, since they believe the defacing is being undertaken by the NPP's own party members who are aggrieved over the choice of Nana Akufo-Addo as the party's flag bearer. Reacting to the accusation by the NPP, the NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ho Central Constituency, Capt. George Kofi Nfojoh (retd), blamed the incident on the pro-Alan Kyerematen forces within the party, who were still hurt by the inability of their candidate to win the flagbearership slot. "There was open division between the Nana and Alan groups and some of the officials are still divided," he said, adding that "in any case, I don't think my boys will ever do that". Capt. Nfojoh advised the NPP to look within itself and heal the clear cracks within their rank and file in the region rather than taking the easy option of blaming the opposition, saying "in any case, we are not the only opposition". Reacting to the suggestion that the posters of Nana Akufo-Addo were being defaced because of the impact he was making in the region, he laughed and retorted, "If Nana is making an impact in the region, then who will tear his posters?" Capt. Nfojoh said the NPP flag-bearer had not convinced anybody in the region that he was capable of ruling the country, adding that he could not handle his previous portfolios as Attorney-General and later as Foreign Affairs Minister.
