The Winneba Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Yiribaare has warned the youth in Winneba not to go against the law regarding demonstrations.
He said in as much as the police cannot prevent people from going on demonstration, they would not allow violent and destructive demonstrations that could breach the peace in the municipality.
ASP Yiribaare was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview following tension among the youth in Winneba on the nomination of Dr Fifi Ghartey as the Municipal Chief Executive.
The youth are claiming that the nominee is not known in the town and also did not know their problems.
The Police Commander urged the youth to use dialogue and consultations to resolve issues instead of violence.
Meanwhile the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party Constituency Chairman for Effutu, Mr Kwadwo Asmah Bondze in another interview with the Ghana News Agency appealed to the youth to exercise restraint and channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters for redress.
In a related development the Concerned Members of NDC in Effutu have appealed to the people in Winneba not to connect the Member of Parliament for the Area and Minister for Transport, Mr Mike Hammah with the selection of the Municipal Chief Executive’s appointment.
In a statement issued in Winneba signed by Mr Appau Wiredu, the group explained that the appointment of ministers and government appointee is a prerogative responsibility of the President.
They have therefore appealed to the youth in Winneba to remain clam and channel their sentiment to the authorities for resolution.
