The Police Service has dismissed as false, media reports suggesting that the Human Rights Court has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawaiah Quaye to withdraw the dismissal letter of DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda. Independent checks by Adomonline.com show that the Human Rights court did not issue any such order to the police service when it sat on the case. Media reports Monday indicated that the Human Rights had ordered the Police Service to re-instate the former Deputy Head of the Police Commercial Crimes Unit with immediate effect. But a source close to DSP Tehoda says the publication is untrue. According to him, the case has only been adjourned to 7th November 2012 to give DSP Tehoda’s lawyers ample time to file some applications. It is expected that by the next sitting DSP Tehoda’s legal counsel would have completed the filing process and presented their case to the court. Confirming the misinformation DSP Cephas Arthur, Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Police Service told Adom News that the Human Rights Court did not order the police service to withdraw DSP Tehoda’s dismissal letter. He explained that it was the counsel for DSP Tehoda who prayed the Human Rights Court presided over by Justice Essel to adjourn the sitting to give them sufficient time and their request was granted. DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda was arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations for her alleged involvement in the swapping of 120 kilogrammes of cocaine that served as evidence against one Nana Ama Martin. She was subsequently sacked by the police service after she was acquitted and discharged by the criminal court of all charges in August this year but her lawyers have sued the Police Service claiming wrongful dismissal.
