Phone snatching is on the increase in Ghana. Phone snatchers have adopted various strategies in committing the crime.
One of the strategies is the use of unregistered motorbikes.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an operation to arrest all unregistered motorbike riders and swoop on areas they believe these criminals are hiding in.
The operation areas are Kaneshie, the Kwame Nkrumah Cirlce and Nima.
So far 17 arrests have been made, and eight suspects have been put before court. The eight have however, been granted bail. They are expected to assist the police in their investigations.
In an interview with The Enquirer, Inspector Kwaku Dompreh, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional police, he asked the public to take personal security measures such as keeping security codes and serial numbers of their mobile phones, to aid in easy identification and collection of stolen phones retrieved from criminals.
He further advised the public to receive their calls only at favourable and safe places.
The Inspector also advised the public to report phone thefts at the nearest police station for action.
Lately, phone snatching has increased in the following areas, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Awudome Traffic Light, Kaneshie, and Lartebiokoshie, around Radio Gold.
Inspector Dompreh advised motorbike owners to register their bikes so they do not fall foul of the law.
