The Minister for the Interior, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, has stated that the government will not sit down unconcern for a few selfish individuals to hold the nation to ransom through criminal activities.
The government will therefore explore various avenues to get vehicles and other logistics for the various units of the Ghana Police Service to enable them to combat crime, especially armed robbery in the country.
Speaking at the presentation of five patrol vehicles fitted with radio, siren and other equipment to the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Saturday, Mr Kan-Dapaah, reiterated the government's commitment to support the police to stand up to their duties.
He said armed robbery was becoming a threat to the Ghanaian society and there was the need for the police personnel to rise up to the task.
The Minister said the Ghana Police Service had an enviable record and urged the personnel to ensure that they maintained the confidence the public had in them by demonstrating to the world that they were ready to combat crime in the country.
He commended the personnel who were recently deployed from other regions to combat criminal activities, which were increasing in the Kumasi metropolis.
Mr Kan-Dapaah, said the little time that they had spent had helped reduce crime considerably in the city and urged them to continue to work hard to achieve their aim.
ACP Seth Charles Oteng, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, thanked the government for the gesture and gave an assurance that the vehicles would be put to good use.
