A Police Officer at the Bonsu Police Station in the Eastern Region has allegedly shot a farmer, John Larbi who was being held in the station.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Koforidua Government Hospital.
The trigger happy police officer claimed he shot Larbi in self defense when the station came under attack but his claim has been refuted by both the victim and the police service.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, District Commissioner of Police Felix Asare Darko confirmed the shooting incident but gave no details.
Joy News’ Benjamin Henaku says it is difficult to ascertain the whereabouts of the police officer as personnel of the service are tight lipped on the matter.
The victim, John Larbi is said to have received multiple shots on both thighs from the officer while being held by the police.
He is responding to treatment.
Meanwhile the gun that was used to commit the crime is believed to have been hidden by the police officer with the aid of a private security named only as Shaibu.
