Police must upgrade themselves

The Government and other stakeholders of education have been called on to design programmes that would help police personnel to upgrade themselves professionally in the various universities. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Asante-Mampong, Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, Mampong Divisional Police Commander, was of the view that when police officers upgrade their knowledge and capacity, it would help them to combat hi-tech crimes such as cyber fraud. The Police Commander indicated that most organised crime in recent times had become complicated due to the use of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), pointing out that this called for an equally highly-trained police who have in-depth knowledge in criminology He appealed to the public not to sympathise with criminals but collaborate with the police to flush out those miscreants for the safety of society. Chief Superintendent Oduro-Kwarteng noted that land and chieftaincy disputes as well as related crimes were counter productive to the socio-economic gains made, and therefore urged stakeholders to strive to address those challenges. He admonished traditional rulers in the Municipality to settle chieftaincy disputes amicably before they generated into serious communal conflicts. He commended the chiefs and people of Mampong and surrounding towns for their efforts to provide accommodation for police officers, and called on the government to help with the speedy complexion of the project.
