Some Police Officers at the Odorkor Police Station on Friday engaged in a show of power when the son of a Policeman was allegedly beaten up by a group of Policemen at the Barracks and locked up for whistling.
Sergeant Joseph Teye removed his son, Kweku Teye, 24, from the Police cell and sent him to the Police Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Medical report signed by one Dr Addo on Kweku on August 3, this year said; "Right peri-orbital contusion with abrasion, swollen tender bridge of nose and lower lip with abrasions, mouth tender lateral chest walls."
In a written statement to the Police Kweku said at about 1730 hours, he was returning from work and when he got to the barracks he saw a friend at a distance and he whistled to draw the friend's attention and before he could say jack, about three Policemen in uniform pounced on him and beat him up.
He said he screamed and when he asked what his offence was he heard one of the Policemen shouting why he (Kweku) should whistle in front of the Police Station to disturb the Police.
Kweku said he only knew the name of one of his assailants as Constable Brown and said when he went to the Police charge-office to report the incident he was beaten up again and forced into the Police cell for about two-and-a-half hours before his father came to rescue him and sent him to the hospital.
According to investigations, some of the Policemen who lived at the Odorkor Police Barrack work at different units and Police Stations in Accra and attempts by the GNA to speak to the Station Officer had proved futile.
The case was, however, logged for further investigations.
