The Wa police have intercepted a hand bag containing several rounds of ammunition belonging to suspected armed robbers at Tinga during patrols on the Wa/Bole/Bamboi road.
No gun was found but it is believed that they were sending the magazines to their hideout where their guns were hidden.
Robert Ayalingo, the Upper West Regional Police Commander said that on March 17, police on patrol duties met two men of Fulani origins on a motorbike with a fake number plate along the Tinga portion of the road.
He said when the suspected robbers saw the police they dismounted from the motorbike and bolted to the surprise of the police officers.
Mr Ayalingo said the police picked the motorbike into their car and searched the bag and found the magazines.
He called on community members along the road to be vigilant and report people with suspected characters to the police.
Traders and the traveling public in the Upper West Region have expressed concern about the activities of armed robbers on the Wa/Bole/Techiman road.
The Industrial Relations Officer of the Wa Regional Branch of the GPRTU, Nuhu Mahama has said that his outfit was considering daytime as the departure time for all passengers traveling to the south.
He said even though traveling during daytime could not make the road secure from armed robbery, it would help to reduce their activities.
Mr. Mahama appealed to the government to deploy military and police patrols to curb the armed robbery menace.
