Police in Kumasi have killed a suspected robber in a shoot-out with armed robbers after the latter group attacked a middle-aged woman in broad daylight at Ahodwo.
Four other suspects who succeeded in snatching an unspecified amount of money from the victim managed to escape, and are being sought for by the police.
Ashanti Regional Commander, ACP Kwasi Duku Mensah, says police went on a rescue mission after receiving a distress call from the 65-year-old victim at about 1.30 p.m. Wednesday.
The robbers opened fire when police pursued them to their hide-out in a marshy area, forcing the security personnel to respond.
A search on the deceased led to the discovery of a locally- manufactured gun, a mobile phone and a bunch of keys.
The victim later identified him as one of the five men who attacked her.
ACP Duku called on residents and hospital authorities to notify police of any suspicious persons who may seek treatment for gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, the body of the unidentified robber has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.
