The Police at Akyem Oda have arrested the leader of a gang said to be terrorizing residents of Oda and its catchment area.
The suspect, Clement Tangey, 31years old, who is said to be a native of Akatsi in the Volta Region but resides in Kade in the Eastern Region, has been described by the police as a hardened criminal.
The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendant James Sarfo Peprah disclosed to this reporter that Clement, who is also an ex-convict, had been on the police wanted list "for a very long time".
Chief Supt. Sarfo Peprah further disclosed that on February 10, 2014 at around 4:30 pm, Clement Tangey and his gang mounted a barrier at Flower Junction, a spot between Osenase and Asamankese in the eastern region, where they attacked and robbed passengers and vehicles plying that road.
He said during the operation, driver of a commercial Nissan mini-bus with registration number GR 3404-11, who spotted the barricade and attempted to skid it, was shot in the head by Clement Tangey .
The vehicle veered off the road into a nearby bush resulting in three of the nine passengers on board, sustaining severe injuries. The driver, Francis Klu died on the spot.
According to the police commander, the victims and deceased were taken to the St Dominic Hospital in Akwatia.
He said on March 4, 2014, police upon a tip off, arrested Clement Tangey at his hide out, while his accomplices are on the run.
Clement, who is said to have been involved in series of robbery cases in and around Akyem Oda, had been to jail on two occasions. He will be arraigned before court, while the police continue with their investigations.
