Kwabena Aryeh a 24-year old driver has been placed in police custody at Nsawam, for allegedly causing the death of his 18-year spouse, Comfort Attaa, a trader.
Superintendent Daniel Nyampong, Akuapem South Municipal Police Commander, speaking to the GNA at Nsawam at the weekend said both the accused and the deceased were married couples living at Kraboa in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District.
He said they had married for three years and had a two-year boy.
Superintendent Nyampong said on January 30 the accused decided to attend a funeral ceremony of a friend who the deceased was not in speaking terms with.
He said the deceased who was not in favour of the decision advised the husband not to attend the funeral.
According to the Municipal Commander, the accused ignored the advice and attended the funeral.
Superintendent Nyampong said when the accused returned from the funeral, he greeted the deceased who refused to respond, nor any request made by the accused.
He said, this provoked the accused who pounced on the deceased and assaulted her following which she went to take refuge with her mother.
The mother, who wanted to know the cause of the fight took the deceased to the house of her son-in-law, but the accused on seeing the deceased once more pounced on her and assaulted her in the presence of her mother.
He said the deceased complained of pains in her abdomen the following day and had to be rushed to the Coaltar Health Centre where she was treated and discharged.
The Commander said the situation worsened the following day and she was referred to the Nsawam Government Hospital where she died on arrival.
The matter was reported to the police who arrested the accused for interrogation
