The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has declared a ruthless war on the sale of second-hand phones and laptops.
ACP Rose Atinga Bio , the Regional Police Commander, in an interview with Joy News said the war is "to break" the surging market for stolen phones and laptops.
Madina and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra are notorious joints for the sale of those items.
According to the Police Commander, 500 second-hand phones and laptops have been confiscated so far and her outfit is waiting for correct identification and collection by owners.
“We believe these mobile phones are what have been snatched, stolen or robbed from law abiding citizens. We want the sellers to bring documents covering them.
“We want to break the market for such products,” she added.
The police commander also warned buyers of those products to desist from patronizing them. She threatened such people will be arrested and prosecuted as well.
ACP Atinga Bio said a similar war against the use of unregistered motor bikes is in the offing.
Innocent citizens have fallen victims to the snatching of mobile phones and other valuables by men on motor bikes.
Atinga Bio said: “We have realized that robberies are committed by people on motorbikes. So now we have declared total war on unregistered motor bikes. We are arresting people who are riding these motor bikes and impounding them. We will prosecute them because it is unlawful for unregistered motorbikes to be plying our roads,” she warned.
