The Director-General of the Technical Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Samuel Monney, has cautioned the youth against vandalising police stations and other public property.
He said communities ought to protect such public assets and the assigned officers tasked to primarily serve the interest of citizens.
COP Monney gave the advice when he inaugurated the Kranka Community Police Station in the Nkoranza North District of the Bono East Region.
He tasked police personnel to forge stronger relationships with civilians to get support from the public towards crime combat.
He expressed concern about the rising acts of lawlessness among the youth and warned those in the community against unruly behaviour, saying they would otherwise face the full rigours of the law.
COP Monney, however, commended the people of Kranka for constructing their own Police Station and, therefore, urged similar deprived communities to emulate that self-help spirit.
The Nkoranza North District Chief Executive, Madam Gifty Akosah-Arthur, commended Major (retired) Derek Oduro, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North, for supporting the community to build the station.
She also advised the youth to shun deviant behaviour, but rather protect the station and assist the personnel in crime-fighting by providing them with information on people with questionable character.
A fetish priest in-charge of the Kranka ‘Brakune’ shrine, Nana Owusu Agyemang, who presided, praised the District Assembly for the development of the community.
