The immediate past Regional Police Commander of the Upper East Region, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr. Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour has entreated police officers to organise themselves diligently towards maintaining peaceful elections.
Speaking at the passing-out parade of 133 recruits at the Pwalugu Police Training School near Bolgatanga, he said, "you are passing-out in an election year, and your ability to make right judgments, devoid of bias and favoritism to any political party, would help to enhance the image of the service, and give credence to your level of professionalism."
During their six months of intensive training, the recruits, made up of 97 males and 36 females, were taught subjects like Criminal Law, Criminal Investigation, Criminal Procedure, Law of Evidence, Practical Police Duties, English Language/Report Writing, Criminology and Domestic Violence.
They are being integrated into the mainstream of the Ghana Police Service.
Mr. Gyeabour reminded the recruits that there was a lot of work on the shoulders of the police, and the vision of the Police Administration was to produce police officers who would measure up to the challenges.
He charged the recruits to be ready for all kinds of emergencies, and also operate within the law.
Mr. Gyeabour, now the Regional Police Commander for the Northern Region, said the taxpayer had invested so much in their training, and that it was up to them to prove their worth in the field of practical policing.
He reminded the recruits that the police career was very challenging, and full of turbulence.
However, if they stood fair and honest in their decision-making and judgment of situations that confront them from time to time, they would enjoy being part of the noble institution.
The Overall Best Recruit Award went to General Recruit James Owusu Sarpong, for scoring 1,418 out a total of 1,725 marks, while Best in Academic went to PW/Recruit Justina A. Quansah.
Others included G/Recruit Gordon Kyeremeh, Best Marksman, G/Recruit Isaac Kwaku Badu, Best in Conduct, G/Recruit Daniel Kwaku Appiah, Best in Drill, and G/Recruit Daniel Akakpo, Best in Physical Training.
In attendance were some members of the Regional Security Council, led by the Deputy Regional Minister, Mrs. Agnes Chigabatia, who stood in for the Regional Minister, Mr Alhassan Samari.
