The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

According to a press statement issued on Thursday, October 1, the suspects, identified as Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was abducted on Friday, September 25, when four armed men attacked him and his brother at their residence.

The suspected kidnappers subsequently contacted the victim’s family and allegedly demanded GH¢100,000 in exchange for his release.

The victim, however, managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers in Sambu, who took him to a clinic for medical attention.

Police officers proceeded to the facility after receiving information about the victim’s whereabouts and engaged him as part of their investigations.

The victim told investigators that he had been taken to an undisclosed location, where he was kept under guard by armed men.

He later managed to escape from his captors and was assisted to safety by farmers in the Sambu area.

As part of the investigations, the victim was shown photographs of the suspects and subsequently identified all three arrested persons as being involved in the incident.

The Police said further investigations have also established that the suspects are allegedly connected to other robbery incidents recorded in the area.

The three suspects remain in Police custody and are assisting with investigations as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining accomplices.

The Police said investigations are also ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction and determine the involvement of other persons in the alleged crime.
