At the centre of the earth, lies the scepter of Humanity
In this scepter lies a chequered political history
Where the shackles and evil claws of colonialism paved way
For the buoyant but inherent flaws of Nkrumaism
Then like musical chairs, the reigns of power changed hands
From the gun barreled military revolutions
To the thumb nailed civilian resolutions
Then came the final solution
Of an uninterrupted democratic dispensation
Elections became the only path after a bloody rickety past
Voices from afar are watching, they are listening, they are waiting.
That righteous path is also a cancerous trap
Showing its tongue in global politics, like the venomous viper
The horror in Zimbabwe , the carnage in Kenya , the protest in Pakistan
Are the ashes of elections
The politicians dream, became the populace nightmare
The homes of peace succumbed to the ravages of war
Vibrant cities crushed into desolate villages
And naked Black power deepened brutal black poverty
All in the horrific tale of elections
Voices from afar are watching, they are listening, they are waiting.
Electoral violence is only but a star studded movie
Acted in the Hollywood ’s of visionless countries
With politicians starring as war mongers
Starting with the war of words and ending with the war of deaths
With Journalists, barking as directors
Spewing words but breathing fire
With the security, waiting to be deployed
To visit their machismo on innocent civilians
With the civilians yearning to be hired
To join the fight of political death
Chances of that movie in Ghana is too strong to ignore
Voices from afar are watching, they are listening, they are waiting
Election 2008, Ghana ’s Political fate
Hangs in the balance
51 years of political struggle still remains a puzzle
But what is election when the dooms day scenario
Cast a shadow on our country?
What is election when we have our hopes on the ropes
With the clouds of uncertainty forming, the waves of violence blowing
Just waiting to belch into an inferno?
What is election when friends become enemies?
Journalists become pugilists?
That is no election, but a horrific movie
Election is election when politicians, journalists,
Agree to disagree on development issues
Election is election when the winner extends an olive branch to the loser
Tapping his knowledge and ideas for the development of the country
Election is election when the loser taps the shoulder of winner,
Cursing his luck for not becoming the winner,
But believing there is always tomorrow
Voices from afar, are those voices yet unborn
But whose future depends on this election
They are watching, they are listening, they are waiting
