The People’s National Convention (PNC) is in disarray.
The National Executive Council (NEC) on Tuesday announced the party will remain neutral in the run up to the election run-off, but the decision was not without a fight.
Sammy Darko, Joy correspondent who was privy to the NEC meeting indicated there was sharp division and verbal confrontation over which of the two parties to support.
Hardly a day after that announcement, the outgoing parliamentary caucus of the party announced it was backing the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the run-off.
Moses Dani Baa, PNC MP for Sisala West and spokesperson of the group argued Nana Akufo-Addo is the best man to continue with development agenda of the three Northern regions.
But for the Greater Accra branch of the PNC, the NDC is the best option.
They argued, they have been campaigning for change, just as the NDC, and since they were rejected in the general election on December 7, the NDC should be their next destination.
Their decision has also been reinforced by the Northern Region branch of the PNC who also declared support for the NDC.
In an interesting twist to the chain of endorsements, Hon. John Ndebugre MP for Zebila has dissociated himself from the declaration by the parliamentary caucus of his party.
He told Citi News on Wednesday, he was not consulted before the decision was made.
He described the NEC as an illegal organisation who has little or no knowledge of the dictates of the PNC constitution.
According to him, NEC, as stipulated in the PNC constitution is made up of 69 members headed by one Mensah Bonsu who at the moment is in Canada, and not the 38 unconstitutional NEC headed by Dr. Edward Mahama.
He said he was not surprised by the utter confusion that characterised the decision taken yesterday.
With eleven days to go for the election run-off between the NPP and the NDC, the media is only waiting to file the next group within the PNC to declare support for one of the two parties.
