The Chairman of the Professional League Board, Welbeck Abra-Appiah has told Joy Sports an investigative body has been set up to look into allegations that Kumasi Asante Kotoko were involved in the sale of unapproved tickets at their matches.
A publication in the Graphic Sports of Tuesday said officials claiming to be working for Kotoko were seen selling ¢40,000 tickets which were not part of the officially printed and approved ones during their league matches against Tema Youth and Accra Hearts of Oak at the Robert Mensah Stadium.
Kotoko have denied any official involvement in the alleged ticket racketeering and the club’s Director of Communications, Kwame Baah Nuakoh told Joy Sports it was unacceptable to suggest that some officials of the club were engaged in such an illegality.
The Graphic Sports said a good number of the illegal tickets were sold to soccer fans and when the illegality was detected through the vigilance of a Professional League Board observer, Kotoko agreed to surrender the sales of the tickets into the final match account.
The report said while the issue remained unresolved, Kotoko officials again repeated the act in their match against Accra Hearts of Oak at the same venue on December 24, 2006. Again when they were queried, according to the paper, Kotoko readily offered to pay up to the Professional League Board but have so far failed to do.
